Cooperation with Siemens Energy: Integrated MV & LV Power Protection Solution for Optical Fiber Factory in Indonesia

1. Project Background
With the rapid manufacturing upgrade in Southeast Asia, a large local optical fiber factory in Indonesia carried out full-plant power distribution renovation, with Siemens Energy as the general EPC contractor. The original power distribution equipment lacked complete protection against overcurrent, leakage and overheating, which brought hidden dangers such as equipment burnout and electrical fire. The project required a complete set of integrated protection devices covering high and low voltage circuits, compliant with local grid standard and 110V auxiliary power supply.
Supported by our full-range power protection product portfolio and rich overseas project experience, Acrel was selected as the core component supplier. We delivered a complete set of protection devices for 400V low-voltage distribution system and medium-voltage motor & feeder circuits, realizing integrated functions including low-voltage line protection, current measurement, residual current monitoring, medium-voltage comprehensive protection and winding temperature detection.
2. Core Project Requirements
- Low-voltage system: 400V panels need 50/51 overcurrent protection, matched protective CTs and zero-sequence residual current transformers, with auxiliary power compatible with 110V AC 50Hz local grid;
- Medium-voltage system: Special protection relays for medium-voltage motors and feeders, supporting PT100 RTD access for real-time winding temperature monitoring;
- Delivery & service: Compact construction schedule requires fast mass production and stable delivery; full English technical documents and remote on-site technical support shall be provided;
- Global standard compliance: Products meet international industrial distribution standards and fit standard cabinet assembly of global EPC manufacturers.
3. Customized Solution from Acrel
3.1 Low-Voltage Power Protection Solution
Acrel ALP220 low-voltage line protection relay is adopted as core device for incoming and outgoing feeders, integrating multi-protection functions such as overload, short circuit and phase failure, with accurate 50/51 overcurrent protection logic. Matched with AKH-L series protective CTs and zero-sequence residual current transformers, the system precisely collects circuit current and leakage signals to give early warning of ground faults and electrical fire risks.
All devices adopt standard DIN-rail mounting design for easy installation inside switch cabinets, which perfectly fits standardized assembly workflow of Siemens Energy.
3.2 Medium-Voltage Protection & Temperature Monitoring Solution
Acrel AM5SE-M motor protection relays and AM5SE-F feeder protection relays are deployed for medium-voltage heavy-duty equipment, covering full-range protection including overcurrent, zero-sequence, undervoltage and overvoltage.
To solve mismatched CT range and missing temperature acquisition channel on site, we proposed an optimized combined solution: AKH-L zero-sequence CTs with matched specifications plus ARTM-8L multi-channel temperature monitor, which supports 8-channel PT100 RTD collection to monitor motor winding temperature 24/7 and prevent damage caused by overheating.
4. Project Implementation & Operation Performance
After mass delivery, all HV & LV protection devices finished installation, wiring and commissioning successfully and run stably long-term:
