Solution

Real-time temperature monitoring and alarming for critical electrical connection nodes inside medium and high voltage switchgear, from 0.4kV LV panels up to 35kV MV/HV switchgear — busbar, power cable, cable-to-busbar connections, circuit breaker moving and fixed contacts — to prevent fire hazards caused by overheating.

APPLICATION & PAIN POINTS
Why Monitor Connection Nodes in 35kV & MV Switchgear?
Switchgear overheating accident caused by loose connection node in medium and high voltage switchgear
Real overheating accident in switchgear — what starts as a warm connection node can end like this.

As long as current flows through electrical equipment, heat is generated and temperature rises. In power systems, many major accidents are caused by the overheating of electrical equipment — often starting from a single loose or aged connection node inside 35kV and below switchgear.

If potential overheating hazards can be detected in time and maintenance or repair measures are taken promptly, operational accidents in the power supply system are greatly reduced and supply reliability is improved. This solution continuously watches these hotspots and alarms before they become failures.

Fully Wireless Connection
Sensors talk to the transceiver via GFSK radio — no wiring on live busbar, much easier installation and more flexible layout.
Self-Powered Sensor
ATE400 is CT self-powered by the load current (starting current 5A) — no battery, no maintenance, lifespan up to 10 years.
Real-Time Alarm
High temperature, over temperature, sudden rise and 3-phase imbalance alarms with buzzer or DO output.

INSTALLATION POSITIONS
Where the Sensor Goes in 35kV & MV Switchgear

ATE400 sensors strap directly onto the hottest connection points of medium and high voltage switchgear — no wiring on live parts, no outage, no battery. Typical installation positions shown below.

ATE400 sensor installed on copper busbar of 35kV MV switchgear
Busbar Connection
Strap on copper busbar joints of 35kV and MV switchgear panels.
ATE400 sensor installed on circuit breaker moving and fixed contacts in HV MV switchgear
CB Moving & Fixed Contacts
On circuit breaker contacts inside HV and MV switchgear cubicles.
ATE400 sensor installed on power cable connection in medium voltage switchgear
Power Cable Connection
On cable lugs and cable-to-busbar joints of MV switchgear feeders.
ATE400 sensor installed on withdrawable drawer switchgear contact points
Drawer-Type Switchgear
On draw-out unit contacts of LV and MV withdrawable switchgear.

ALARM LOGIC
Four-Stage Temperature Alarm Protection
ALARM 1 — HIGH TEMP
Pre-alarm when node temperature exceeds the preset threshold. Alerts personnel to watch the rising temperature. Buzzer or 1st DO output.
ALARM 2 — OVER TEMP
Severe alarm with a higher preset threshold. Serious temperature rising that must be solved immediately. Buzzer or 2nd DO output.
ALARM 3 — SUDDEN RISE
Triggers if a large temperature jump happens within 30 minutes, e.g. +10°C in 5 minutes. Threshold settable 0-125°C. Alarm lasts at most 5 minutes.
ALARM 4 — IMBALANCE
Triggers when temperature difference between A/B/C phase nodes of one circuit exceeds the threshold (default 10°C, settable e.g. 5°C). DO output.
Temperature alarm thresholds - normal temp zone, high temp and over temp alarm thresholds
